Jeebus, it keeps getting worse

You don't have to be a member of a terrorist organization to pose a legitimate danger to Americans. You just have to believe in a set of propositions so strongly that you are willing to kill or be killed for them.

The World's Got Me Dizzy Again

You think after twenty years I'd be used to the spin.

Republicans claiming "bipartisanship." You see, since they unanimously opposed the health care bill, and a sizable number of Democrats also opposed the bill, congressional Republicans are reasoning that health care reform has generated bipartisan opposition. Really, this just reminds Americans that the GOP is such a minority party that even if they unanimously oppose the Obama agenda and get some Democrats to cross to their side of the aisle Obama and Co. can still get things done.

More importantly, this reminds Democrats to stop pretending like there are two legitimate parties in D.C. There are no adults left in the GOP, so stop weakening legislation in order to appear bipartisan.

Why the Democrats Are Screwed

Obama basically built a bridge that was only half the length our nation needed to cross over the economic abyss. The bridge helped us avert economic calamity but failed to save enough jobs at the state level and spur demand through aggressive fiscal stimulus. Perversely, if the economic situation doesn't improve, conservatives will probably succeed in persuading Americans that this proves that bridge-building itself doesn't work. You see, building bridges requires too much spending. It's the problem, not the solution. If we didn't build bridges, all the poor people would stop complaining and get a job and then we'd wake up one day and be on the other, better side of the abyss.

The Democrats deserve to lose some elections in 2010. But America sure can't afford to let the Republican Party of God win those seats.

10.2%

Even as the DOW flirts with 10,000, another psychological benchmark has been surpassed. The unemployment rate is 10.2%, the highest it's been in America since the early years of the Reagan administration. GDP is positive, and the DOW is up, but if there is an economic recovery it continues to be a jobless one.
